He apparently wanted to occupy San Francisco County Jail.
A Southern California man cited for having a concealed gun at the Occupy SF encampment at Justin Herman Plaza on Tuesday [http://www.sfexaminer.com/local/crime/2011/11/occupy-sf-protester-busted-gun-possesion-encampment] was arrested again the following day for threatening a park ranger at the encampment, police said.
Jonathan Waknine, 23, of Valley Village, was allegedly miffed that cops confiscated his handgun Tuesday. He returned to camp after being released by police. Around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Waknine confronted a Recreation and Park ranger who had come to do a routine safety walkthrough of the encampment, police Sgt. Daryl Fong said Thursday.
Waknine complained to the ranger that he rightfully owned his handgun and did not deserve to have it confiscated. The ranger told him it was a police matter and that he could nothing about it. At that, Waknine said he planned to fetch a fully loaded assault rifle from home and would challenge those who tried to take it from him, Fong said.
The ranger filed a police report. Waknine was arrested around 3:40 p.m. and booked into county jail on a felony charge of making threats to a public employee, Fong said.
Waknine, who was busted by Los Angeles police on drug charges Oct. 30, reportedly moved to the Occupy SF encampment on Monday. On Tuesday, a concerned protester told police Waknine had a gun.
The protester said he overheard Waknine telling another camper he wanted to avoid prison. Waknine then took off his jacket, presumably to show that he had a handgun inside a holster attached to his belt, Fong said.
Waknine was detained at the northern side of the plaza for having a concealed unloaded semiautomatic handgun. The gun was seized without incident.
