On
Valentine Day, we will be showing our love for our children and for our
schools by calling for Chevron to start paying more for education.
Teachers and students will be having wish lists on Valentine's day of
what they need in the schools from pencils and paper to books.
Last
year, Chevron made $26.9 billion in profits and if Proposition 1522
passes passes they will be paying $1 billion in additional taxes to fund
education in California. If this passes it would bring $42,442,876 in
additional revenue for public schools in the Contra Costa School
district and raise $3.5 billion more for education throughout
California.
California schools have had tens of thousands of layoffs
and cutbacks as billions have been eliminated from education from K-12
to Community Colleges, CSU and the UC system. At the same time the
profits of the oil companies in California have been skyrocketing. The
public education system is under dire threat and yet the oil companies
in California pay no oil extraction tax unlike Texas and even Alaska.
This money is desperately needed to protect and defend education in
California. We also support the millionaires tax.
